ARRANGEMENTS FOR INCIDENT RESPONSE 28/29 SEP 24 AT CHICKSANDS

In light of the severe weather and flooding experienced over the last week at Chicksands, the DITG has raised its alert state and ability to react over the weekend of 28 September 24.

All communication about incidents must initially go through the Main Guardroom on 01462 752333. Information will be triaged here and cascaded appropriately.

Duty Staff will monitor the weather forecast, site, drains, and river over the weekend. Everybody on site is encouraged to help in this and if there is any doubt, please raise your concerns immediately.

In addition to the site’s usual duty officers and personnel, 5 members of the support services unit and 20 volunteers as a working party are on site for the weekend. The HQ has links with duty personnel at the Environment Agency and Internal Drainage Board to cascade flood warnings more quickly.

SITE PROTECTION

All SFA and training buildings in the risk area have been protected by sandbags. Further sandbags are available to J4 staff and the working party and at reserve locations in the SFA if required. The drains on site have all been proven and flushed.

The site approached the Army’s engineer regiments for advice and guidance on flood defences and they sent a team to Chicksands on 26 Sep. They gave confidence that homes are as well-protected as possible for now and will be providing a list of recommendations for how the site can be protected going forwards – flood defences for all doorways and ventilation openings, waterproofing for masonry along with larger site projects.
